Sita MacMillan | The Artist

Art tells a story. Mine celebrates our boldness.

Now Gallery Represented with Ellen's Creek Gallery in Charlottetown, PE

In my creative world the bold strokes and vibrant hues on the canvas allow my creative freedom to exist in the world. As an emerging acrylic artist currently living on Epekwitk/PEI, I am inspired by the constant beauty around me.

Each canvas is a celebration of the human experience often painted intuitively where I explore the realness and imperfections of how we exist in the world today. Perfectly imperfect.

I paint for us to have a daily reminder to wear your tiara to brunch, be bold with your boundaries, and have the audacity to expand your joy fueled life.

Why abstract ladies?

I've been painting them since high school! I still remember one of my first ones.

I don't think I had the same depth of meaning, but I've always liked painting societal expressions.

Challenging the idea of "beauty." In high school, that meant looking like everyone else by wearing the same clothing - with the right brand name. I felt that it was boring, but I also wanted to fit in. One of the many juxtapositions of adolescent life.

I left painting behind as I needed to get serious about life... or so, I thought... for decades, but I'm so glad the inner voice kept whispering to come back.

Now, motherhood plays a role. Another life adventure where I'm uncomfortable in my own body. Everything changes, except this time, my brain is fully developed, and I have a lot more life experience...

So, what do my abstract figures mean now?

Celebrating the Too Much crew in the world.

My paintings explore themes of self-expression, individuality, and the unspoken beauty that exists beyond the physical. It challenges the traditional idea of figures and portraitures, offering instead a celebration of colour, form, and energy.

Allowing you, the viewer, to reflect on your own understanding of beauty.

I invite you into this journey of exploring beauty and being.

And remind you that play is always a part of life.

I am not currently available for commissions or workshop facilitations.
